More than 100,000 employees receive EIS benefits
Last update: 16/10/2019

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16   – A total of 109,102 people received the full-fledged benefits of the Employment Insurance System (EIS) from Jan 1 to Aug 31, 2019 involving a payment of RM59.84 million, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Human Resource Minister, Datuk Mahfuz Omar said the accumulated EIS contribution collected during the same period was RM426.32 million.

“To date, 400,413 employers have registered with the Social Security Organisation’(SOCSO) under EIS, involving 6.5 million employees," he said in response to an oral question from Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (PH-Kapar).

To a supplementary question from Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) on the welfare of employees in media organisations who lost their jobs due to the winding-up of the companies concerned, Mahfuz said the government did not have the power to interfere in the business affairs of any private company.

So far, 483 former Utusan Melayu employees and 39 Karangkraf staff had received the EIS benefits after losing their jobs, he added.
