KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 -- Samian Senin has been reaping the fruits of success as a takaful consultant with  Takaful Ikhlas  for 16 years, enabling him to recommend it to the younger generation and graduates as a stable career with high earning potential.

The Usrah Associates group agency manager said takaful (Islamic insurance) consultants are not thought lowly of anymore because they can earn a four-figure monthly salary, more than even a professional salary.

He said takaful businesses are springing up like mushrooms because people are beginning to realise the importance of having insurance coverage.

“Competition and challenges will always be there, but there are other areas one can explore like illness, medical treatment and asset protection,” he said in an interview with Bernama recently.

Samian is among  Takaful Ikhlas ’ outstanding agents and recently received the prestigious Mega Agency Award (on the basis of a first year collected contribution of over RM3 million per year) for a fifth time.

He has also received the Takaful Family Award and Top Unit Producer Award, Million Ringgit Agency Award.

The former bank officer whose agency is registered with  Takaful Ikhlas  Family Bhd said the secret to his success is simply dedication and a willingness to take risks, and that “like any business, you rise and fall. I’ve lost many agents, poached by other people. But I persevered in spite of it and believe in God’s plan.”

He said lack of knowledge about takaful should not cause people to fear joining the industry because training to become a professional consultant will be provided.

He said takaful businesses are regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia and the Malaysian Takaful Association to keep everyone on track.

“You will have to attend skills training and commit to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to stay informed and competent at your job,” he said.

Zaiton Osman, another outstanding agent, said she gets ahead by diversifying her business, offering quality and efficiency.

“The way of doing business now and before has changed, so we need to work hard and use the platforms available, like social media, to attract clients,” said the single mother who sells insurance and general takaful products.

She said she is contented with her job as a takaful consultant because it is financially rewarding, has allowed her to own a nice car and travel around the world.
