BNM, DBP promote usage of national language in financial sector

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) --The central bank together with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) recently organised the 10th ''Pertandingan Pidato antara Institusi Kewangan Piala Gabenor Bank Negara Malaysia'' to enhance, promote and implement the usage of the national language in the financial industry.



In a statement today, the central bank said the move was in line with its financial inclusion initiatives and to generate greater awareness on matters concerning financial consumers.



"This competition aims to improve the understanding of the bank's policies and initiatives in the financial sector, as captured in topics on the digital economy; affordable housing; Perlindungan Tenang insurance; Islamic finance; cyber threats in the financial industry; and cryptocurrency," it said.



Muhamad Yusof Sulaiman of Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Bhd emerged as the champion in the finals of the competition which was held on July 5 while Ahmad Safiuddin Nordin of AmBank (M) Bhd and Fartihah Nabilla Harun of CIMB Bank Bhd took second and third place, respectively.



The winners received RM5,000 (Champion), RM3,000 (first runner up) and RM2,000  (second runner up) in cash together with a trophy, certificate of participation and books published by DBP.



In total, 83 participants from local and foreign banks, development financial institutions and insurance and takaful companies took part in the competition .
