No By-Election For Lepar Seat, Says EC
Last update: 02/01/2018

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- A by-election will not be held to fill the vacant state seat of Lepar in Pahang following the death of the assemblyman Datuk Mohd Shohaimi Jusoh on Dec 31, the Election Commission said today.

The EC said in a statement that Pahang State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Ishak Muhamad notified it of the vacant seat today but did not express the need to fill the vacancy.

It said that in accordance with the Pahang constitution, it was not necessary to fill a vacant electoral seat if the vacancy occurred less than two years before the next general election.

Mohd Shohaimi died at his home in Sungai Isap Damai in Kuantan at 4.15 am on Dec 31 after suffering from a fever for about a week.

In the 13th general election, in 2013, Mohd Shohaimi garnered 8,022 votes to defeat Jefri Tukemin of PKR, who received 4,306 votes, and independent candidate Kamarzaman Yunus, who got 65 votes.
