Malaysian Students Involved In Accident In Perth Arrive Home

SEPANG, May 25 (Bernama) -- Ten Malaysian students who were involved in a road accident in Perth, Australia recently, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Sunday night.
With them were four accompanying teachers and they were all received on arrival by Selangor Education Department director, Datuk Mahmud Karim.
Mahmud said the students were only slightly injured in the accident and were able to complete all their activities planned.
"However, another teacher is not discharged yet by the hospital as she is still being treated for injuries on her ankle and hand, while another student was brought home by her parents," he said when met at KLIA.
Last Wednesday, a bus carrying 21 passengers comprising students and teachers from Malaysia and Indonesia, had reportedly skidded and crashed in a mountainous area in Perth, Australia.
The students, believed to be aged 10 to 12, were on their way to Lake Leschenaultia, about 50 km from Perth city, while on an environmental education seminar.
Mahmud said the Malaysian group of students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen Sembilan, Shah Alam were in Perth since May 20.
One of the students, Aishah Ahmad Firdaus, 12, said some of them realised the accident happened only when the other students and teachers screamed and the firemen then arrived to give assistance.
Noraidah Badaruzaman, 33, one of the accompanying teachers, said the accident left her a little traumatised, besides her elbow and cheek were slightly injured, but her first thoughts were to save the students.
"The mist at the time was thick as the area is mountainous, and the bus was not travelling fast, at a speed of not more than 50 kph," said Noraidah, who teaches visual arts and Bahasa Malaysia.
