OIC Secretary-General Condemns Terrorist Attacks On Iranian Border Guards
Last update: 30/10/2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has condemned the recent deadly terrorist attacks on Iranian border guards in Sistan and Balochistan province which left 14 dead and wounded a few others.

He reiterated the OIC's stand in condemning all forms of terrorism and urged that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

In a statement, Ihsanoglu also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, the government and people of Iran and prayed for the quick recovery of the wounded.

On Friday night, 14 Iranian border guards were killed and six injured in a terrorist attack carried out by armed men on a border post near the country's frontier with Pakistan.

In the ambush attack, which took place near the city of Saravan in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Balochistan, the armed men took three border guards hostage.

According to reports, it seemed that the attack had been organised from outside the country and efforts were being made to obtain the release of the hostages.

In response to the terrorist attacks, an Iranian prosecutor also announced that 16 terrorists affiliated with counter-revolutionary groups were executed in Sistan and Balochistan province on Saturday morning.

Iranian President Hassan Rohani and Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani issued separate messages on Saturday offering their condolences.
