Last update: 17/10/2013

BANGKOK, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The flooding that has affected Thailand for a month now is estimated to cost economic damage of between 10-15 billion baht.

It will also shave about 0.05 percentage points from the country's economic growth.

The damage could have been worse had it affected Thailand's industrial areas.

"The floods did not affect the industrial estates or the manufacturing lines, but only the entrances to some of those areas.

"It mostly affected the cultivated areas and properties," said Thanavath Phonvichai, Director Centre of Economic and Business Forecasting of the Thai Chamber of Commerce at a press conference here Thursday.

As the flood situation continues in Thailand, its capital Bangkok, has seen heavy rain from yesterday due to the tropical storm Nari, causing flash floods on the road and traffic jams.

Meanwhile, since Sept 17 to the present, the death toll from the floods in the country stands at 68.

Thailand's 46 of its 77 provinces have seen flooding with 5.78 per cent or 3.72 million of the population affected.

A total of 569,000 hectares of agricultural cultivated area have also been impacted with the aquaculture industry seeing 39,428 fish and shrimp ponds damaged.
