Mb Urges Bumiputera To Develop And Compete
Last update: 15/09/2013
JOHOR BAHARU, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The
Bumiputera should be prepared to
develop their capabilities and compete with each other, Menteri Besar Johor
Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said today.
"This is not a handout," he stressed while commenting on the Bumiputera
economic empowerment measures announced by the Prime Minister yesterday.
He said if they failed to develop, compete and help other bumiputeras and
merely viewed the government's aid as their birthright, the flaws of the New
Economic Policy would be repeated.
Mohamed Khaled thanked the Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and described the
policy as a courageous move committed to fulfilling the wants and needs of 67
percent of the country's population in order to overcome their problems and
challenges.
The state government in turn was prepared to create the Bumiputera
development units within all the ministries as outlined by Najib, he added.

Over in Negeri Sembilan, the state's Malay Chamber of Commerce acting
president Mohd Noh Jidin said they fully supported the measures as it benefited
all bumiputera entrepreneurs.
He said the chamber would ensure that its members and the public were aware
of the government's offers and assist those eligible to obtain them.
"We will brief Tekun, AIM, Mara and PUNB on the matter soon," he said here
today.
Meanwhile, Senator Datuk Boon Som Inong the representative of the community
of Siamese origin said they welcomed the economic measures to empower the
Bumiputera as it would prepare them to be more competitive by the year 2020.
He described the strategy as a gift to the Bumiputera community which
included the minority Siamese Bumiputera, who stood behind the Barisan Nasional
(BN) at the last general election.
