Melaka Public Art Gallery To Be Reopened April 15
Last update: 07/02/2018

MELAKA, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Public Art Gallery will be reopened to the public on April 15 after being temporarily closed for over a year to facilitate renovation worth about RM1.2 million.

Melaka Museum Corporation (Perzim) general manager Datuk Khamis Abas said the renovation, carried out by the Melaka Historical City Council, was almost finished.

"A solo exhibition of photo collections including privately owned by Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob will be the first activity during the reopening of the gallery.

"The reopening of this art gallery is expected to elevate art thus increasing the number of visitors to the 20 museums and galleries under Perzim this year," he told reporters after the launching of Faizal Sidik: Songket Paintings exhibition at the Art Gallery here today.

The solo exhibition was launched by Perzim deputy chairman Datuk Hamdin Abdollah.

Khamis said Perzim museums and galleries drew about 866,000 visitors including 765,000 admission-paying visitors last year.

"This year, we are aiming to increase the number of visitors to 900,000 including 800,000 admission-paying ones," he said.

Meanwhile, Faizal said his third solo exhibition which began on Jan 20, would be held for two months with a collection of over 50 artworks produced from 2010.
