Father Arrested For Alleged Abuse Of Two Children
Last update: 06/02/2018

SEGAMAT, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- A 31-year-old man was arrested by police about 11 am today to facilitate investigations into the alleged  abuse of his children, aged eight and five, yesterday.

Segamat district police chief Supt Raub Selamat said the man was believed to have hit his eight-year-old daughter before hurling her onto the floor in the 7am incident in their home in Segamat Baru here.

He said the man who did not have a fixed job then stomped on his five-year-old son, while his 30-year-old wife watched helplessly.

"The suspect then sent his two children for treatment at the Segamat Hospital.  Suspicious with the injuries sustained by the children, the hospital informed the police," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

"We are still waiting for the medical report of the two victims," he said adding that the police viewed the case as serious as it involved physical and mental abuse of children.

He said the case is investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and the man has been remanded for four days until Friday.
