Last update: 21/12/2017

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- The Sessions Court here today ordered a businessman who calls himself 'Datuk Kabi' to enter his defence on a charge of robbing a restaurant owner a gold necklace last year.

Judge  Zaman Mohd Noor made the decision after finding the prosecution had proven a prima facie case against Datuk Kabi , whose real name is C. Kamaleswaran, 38 and fixed Feb 13 next year for the accused to defend himself.

Lawyer Norizan Yaacub who represented the accused said that Kamaleswaran chose to testify under oath in the witness stand, to make his defence.

Kamaleswaran and three others still at large were alleged to have robbed E. Selvarajoo, 49, of a gold necklace by using an object which looked like a pistol at a car park near Restoran Aiswaria, Lorong Maarof, Taman Bangsar, Brickfields, here at 8.30 pm on Apr 1, 2016.

The charge under Section 395 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal appeared for the prosecution.
