Drowned: Man Who Attempted To Retrieve Nephew's Ball

MELAKA, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- A man who went missing after attempting to retrieve his nephew's ball at sea was found drowned this evening.



Fishermen found the body of telecommunications company contractor Mohammad Rohim Rohani at 4.45pm about 20 metres from the Pantai Puteri beach here.



The body of the 35-year-old, from Klang, Selangor was sent to the Melaka Hospital.



Melaka and Negeri Sembilan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Deputy Director, Maritime Commander Azman Samsudin said Mohammad Rohim was bathing with his family members about 11am when he tried to retrieve his nephew's ball which had gone adrift.



"However, the victim failed to swim back (to the shore) and was suddenly waving for help before disappearing," he said when contacted today.



Azman said MMEA mounted a search and rescue operation, along with the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police and other relevant agencies, after receiving a distress call.



Meanwhile, Tangga Batu Fire and Rescue Station chief, Assistant Superintendent Roslan Jalil said the victim's body was found entangled with a fishing boat.
