Vietnam Sends First Female Officer For UN Peacekeeping Mission

HANOI, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Vietnam has dispatched its first female officer for UN peackeeping mission when Major Do Thi Hang Nga of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre under the Ministry of National Defence joined the UN mission in South Sudan, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
The ministry hosted a ceremony here today to assign the task to Nga, who began working as a staff officer in charge of overseeing military operations for 12 months from Oct 29.
Before embarking on the task, Nga attended various training courses in Sri Lanka, China, Netherlands and South Korea.
Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh said the dispatch of a female officer to the UN peacekeeping mission showed gender equality and affirmed the role of women in global activities.
Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre, said after three years of joining UN peacekeeping operations, Vietnam has sent 20 officers to missions to Central Africa and South Sudan.
