Last update: 29/08/2017
KUCHING, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- A programme developed to boost examination results for students from Baleh through effective studying and examination techniques was recently conducted.
The three day camp-like 'Jalinan Mesra Peribumi' programme, organised by Sarawak Energy in partnership with Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Sarawak Campus and Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah (PPD) Kapit, will kickstart a new three-year programme which will run from 2017-2020.
This is a continuation of the 'Education Enhancement Programme' which was carried out in 2015 and 2016 in the area.
The programme saw strong and encouraging participation from about 200 students, teachers and parents of SMK Baleh and four primary schools - SK Temenggong Koh, SK Sempili, SK Entuloh and SK Lepong Gaat.
Sarawak Energy's head of corporate social responsibility (CSR) Jiwari Abdullah, IPG Sarawak Campus director Jamiran Salam and Sarawak Energy's community relations adviser Stell Sindau were present at the ceremony.
Jiwari said the programme was designed to provide guidance to enhance examination answering techniques and skills for students from the Baleh area to enable them to perform better academically and pursue higher education.
The workshop included motivational talks for parents and teachers on the importance of prioritising education.
"There is more confidence after going through the programme with the trainers from IPG Sarawak Campus," said Jimmy Bundan, a student at SMK Baleh.
A parent, Kennedy Jampong who was among the workshop's participants said the programme provided useful insight on how to encourage children to focus and prepare for the UPSR and SPM examinations.
Jamiran said the outreach programme supported the education development of students from Sarawak's schools in the interior region.
